TALK: "Lenten Insights from the Desert Fathers and Mothers" (in English) 7:30pm - 9:00pm St Eustathios Church, 221 Dorcas St, South Melbourne Speaker: Mr Mario Baghos, Associate Lecturer in Patristic Studies and Church History at St Andrew's Theological College, Sydney and a PhD Candidate in Studies in Religion at the University of Sydney. In the fourth century AD, the rapid Christianisation of the Roman empire had a surprising corollary; the influx of Christians, men and women of various status and walks of life, into the Egyptian desert. These saints are known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers, and this presentation will assess their immediate historical context, aspects of their lives, and their sayings (apophthegmata), in order to ascertain their relevance for each and every one of us embarking on the Lenten journey in the Church.
