Also, Holy Communion is distributed to the people in a similar way as is normally given to the Priests - i.e. the Body of Christ is given separately and then the Blood of Christ is taken directly from the chalice.

7:30pm - 9:00pm St Eustathios Church, 221 Dorcas St, South Melbourne
Speaker: Justice Emilios Kyrou - a Judge of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria, appointed to that position on 29 July 2014. He was appointed as a Justice of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court on 13 May 2008.
Prior to his judicial appointment, Justice Kyrou was a senior litigation partner in the Melbourne office of the firm that is now known as King & Wood Mallesons.
Justice Kyrou is the only Greek-born judge in Australia and only the second practising solicitor to be appointed directly to the Supreme Court of Victoria.
He is a member of the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity, the patron of the Greek Australian Welfare Society and the Victorian patron of the Hellenic Australian Lawyers Association. On 25 March 2015, he was awarded the Gold Cross of the Order of Honour by the President of the Hellenic Republic.
In 2012 he published a partial autobiography titled ‘Call me Emilios’, the Greek version of which was published in August 2015.
In February 2015 Justice Kyrou helped organise the Opening of the Legal Year Service at St Eustathios. He also read from the Greek text of the Bible at the multi-faith Opening of the Legal Year Service at Government House.
Justice Kyrou's presentation will focus on personal background, the judicial system, the historical relationship between religion and the judicial system, physical manifestations of religion in the judicial system and indirect and more subtle influences of religion in the judicial system.
PLEASE NOTE: Abiding by the wishes of the speaker, this lecture will NOT be recorded nor made available on our "Lecture Podcast" page as usual. If you want to hear it, you'll need to attend in person.
